ISSN: 0734-1482
Active primarily in the 1970s and 1980s, Prototype Modeler was a specialized magazine for model railroaders focused on replicating real-world railroads with high fidelity. It featured detailed articles on prototype-based layouts, historical research, track plans, and technical modeling tips, appealing to enthusiasts prioritizing accuracy and realism. Though less prolific than mainstream titles, its niche focus earned it a dedicated following.
ScaleTrains™, an innovative model train manufacturer, founded in 2015 and headquartered in Cleveland, Tennessee, acquired the rights to Prototype Modeler and is working to make its content available again to the railfan and model railroading community. The company offers model trains for every skill level and budget, specializing in HO, N, and S Scale, manufacturing diesel and steam locomotives, freight cars, passenger cars, containers, and more. Additionally, Virtual Railfan™, under the ScaleTrains umbrella since 2023, brings LIVE train watching destinations to desktops and mobile devices.
